SEO for photographers
Book your best genre, at your favourite venues, from couples and clients who found you on Google rather than through a referral alone.
01 / Why photographer SEO is about structure, not beauty
Your photos are not the SEO job. Their structure is
Photographers have a particular SEO problem. Every site is beautiful. Every photographer has a portfolio. And yet only a handful rank well, because the difference comes down to structure rather than aesthetics. A stunning homepage with no genre pages, no venue pages and a single 'enquire' button converts nothing. A plainer site with tight genre pages, proper venue pages and pricing visible books weddings a year in advance.
The winning photographer sites have stopped treating the homepage as the point. They treat the homepage as a traffic router. Every visitor gets pushed to the genre page closest to their search, which pushes them to the case study closest to their vision, which pushes them to the booking form with a clear deposit. That is structure. That is what rankings reward and what bookings follow.
We build photographer sites with that discipline. Genre pages that rank for real buyer searches, venue pages that rank for post-venue-booking searches, case studies that rank for long-tail, a clean booking-plus-deposit flow, and fast gallery markup so Google is not penalising you for photos that are two megabytes each. Beautiful is a given. Structured is what pays for it.
02 / What you get
Built for how photography clients actually search
Six things that turn a beautiful portfolio into a full booking diary.
Genre-specific portfolio pages that rank
Family, newborn, commercial, branding, corporate headshots, events, product. Each genre is a distinct search from a distinct buyer, and generic photography homepages rank for none of them.
Image SEO done properly, not as an afterthought
File names, alt text, captions, EXIF care and fast-loading gallery markup. Photographers waste their biggest SEO asset (thousands of uploaded images) by treating it as decoration rather than ranking fuel.
Venue and location landing pages
Wedding photographers: pages per popular venue. Newborn photographers: pages per city. Commercial: pages per city. Each of these ranks for niche searches competitors are skipping.
Pricing and package pages that convert
Hiding prices behind 'enquire for brochure' costs most photographers more bookings than they realise. Published starting-point pricing on each genre page filters out the wrong enquiries and reassures the right ones.
Case studies and real wedding write-ups
Named venue, real couple (with consent), twenty images with story. These pages rank for 'wedding photographer [venue]' searches that future couples Google after booking their venue.
Booking flow with date, shoot type and deposit
Date picker, shoot type, budget band, venue and a deposit via Stripe to lock the date. Ends the 'we are still thinking about it' stall that costs you half your busy-season weekends.
Inside your portal

FAQ
Common questions
Photographers are told portfolios do not need SEO. Is that still true?
It was never true and it is less true now. Even direct-referral photographers lose bookings when they do not show up for venue and genre searches. The best-booked photographers we work with come from referral plus search, not one or the other.
Should I publish wedding photography prices?
Publish a starting point. 'From £2,200 for eight hours' filters out enquiries below your band and reassures couples above it that they are in the right place. Full packages can still be sent after an enquiry.
How do we handle image loading speed?
Properly. Next-gen image formats (WebP, AVIF), responsive sizing, lazy-loading below the fold, and small hero images that do not punish mobile users on 4G. Most photographer sites load so slowly Google penalises them. We fix that as part of the build.
Can the site take booking deposits via Stripe?
Yes. Stripe deposit to lock a date once you have approved a quote. Cuts the 'we got a better quote' last-minute cancel and keeps your calendar honest.
Do venue pages really rank?
Yes, quickly. 'Wedding photographer [venue name]' is searched by couples immediately after booking the venue. A venue-specific page with real images from shoots there often reaches the first page inside six weeks.
Should I still blog?
Only if the post is really a case study. One deep real-wedding write-up a month outperforms four generic posts. Internal linking from case studies to genre and venue pages is the most efficient SEO compounding available.
